LinkedIn Revamps Apps for Smartphones, iPads as Mobile Users Grow [PICS]

LinkedIn debuted new mobile features for its iPhone, Android and iPad apps on Wednesday.

The professional social network announced the changes in a blog post written by mobile product head Joff Redfern.

Android and iPhone users can now get notified in real-time when they accept invitations, and when someone views their profile or likes what they share, Redfern says.

He adds that company pages have gone mobile, so members can see which of their connections work at the companies they follow, monitor recent news and updates from those companies, and learn about current job openings. LinkedIn users can also access job listings within their mobile update stream.

With more than 60% of its membership base outside the U.S., the company also launched several different languages on iPad. Users can now access the social network in French, German, Italian, Spanish, Brazilian, Portuguese and Korean -- with more to come. IPad visitors also get the same updates to notifications and company pages.

Another long-awaited and much-requested update that is arriving soon: the ability to edit profiles from mobile apps.

LinkedIn has seen its mobile users more than double since 2011. Last year, 10% of unique visitors to the site were using mobile apps, while there are more than 23% doing so today. The company announced last month that it had 175 million members.

These latest changes are part of LinkedIn's effort to provide "an entirely new ... mobile experience," including the launch of an iPad app in April and a Windows Phone app in May.
