An unidentified man fled on foot Sunday night after police say he robbed the owner of China Wok in Woodstock at knifepoint.

Woodstock Police Chief Eric Reiley said police received a call about 7:45 p.m. reporting that a man approached the restaurant at 1019 S. Main St. as the owner was taking out the cash drawer and preparing to close.

"The [man] forced him back into the restaurant with a knife and demanded money," Reiley said.

The owner was not injured.

Reiley said that the suspect may have been injured when the restaurant owner struck him in the back of the head with a glass jar full of change that had been donated to a local charity.

After that, the man fled out the back door, causing minor damage to the door on his way out. He did, however, make off with a small amount of cash, police said.

Shenandoah County sheriff's deputies and troopers with Virginia State Police assisted Woodstock police at the scene. A K-9 unit also was dispatched, though the suspect was not found.

"What we're doing right now is looking over the surveillance footage," Reiley said.

The suspect was wearing a ski mask and police describe him as approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall and of thin build.

Anyone with information pertaining to the incident is asked to contact Woodstock police investigator Derek Good at (540) 459-2141.
