Andrew Flintoff wins first fight via decision ? Boxing News

After all the lifestyle changes, mocking and hard work, former England cricket team captain Andrew Flintoff finally won his professional boxing debut fight against American fighter Richard Dawson. However, Flintoff called it a day, retiring with a one-win fight streak. Flintoff survived a second round knockout and managed to edge Dawson with points.

Flintoff retired from cricket three years back, and recently decided to step in the ring a professional boxer. The hero of Ashes faced criticism from those who are sensitive about the sport such as promoter Frank Warren and the like. In other words, winning his fight had become more than just about boxing, it was about his pride and honour.

?You mention the Ashes and things at international level which were amazing but as a personal achievement I think this is better,? said Flintoff after the fight. ?I have had to work so hard. The feeling of being back in there in front of a crowd and winning. I can't describe it.

?I've learned a lot of things. I've sprouted a few abs I've never seen. I've lost a load of weight. The physical aspect of boxing is one thing but the mental part is something else. I've never experienced anything like it,? he added.

Flintoff fought with Dawson at the MEN Arena for his first professional fight. Flintoff revealed that when he hit the matt with Dawson?s hook and beat the count, the referee asked him his name, to which he replied, ?It's Fred isn't it??

For the former cricketer, the victory is overwhelming. According to him, the feeling of winning in front of thousands of fans cannot be explained. Flintoff definitely pulled this one off pretty well but he is not sure about his future. The Englishmen has already announced that he will limit his career just to this win.

If Flintoff decides to get back in the ring, it will be a huge decision for him as now he will be facing bigger and tougher opponents. Surviving a four-round fight might be huge for Flintoff but not for professional boxers, who usually pull off 12-round fights without passing out.
