New York, NY (PRWEB) October 10, 2012

Today, nonprofit organization, Voices Against Brain Cancer (VABC), released a statement following the passing of Steve Sabol, president of NFL Films, after his 18-month battle with brain cancer.

According to a recent article by Brian McIntyre of Yahoo! Sports, ?Sabol was a central figure in how we all ? fans, players, coaches ? came to see the National Football League.? He passed away on September 18, 2012. Sabol, who pioneered NFL Films and the sports television industry, served as an inspiration to those in his industry, within the NFL, and those diagnosed with brain cancer during the 18 months following his diagnosis.

VABC representative Clay Darrohn states ?We are saddened by the passing of Sabol, however, it is our hope that the loss of another great mind to this devastating disease will help spur progress in research to help those combatting brain cancer and to raise awareness about the reality of this diagnosis.?

VABC has a wide variety of initiatives in place for brain cancer research, awareness and support. The organization?s research grants fund cutting-edge research programs that will have a monumental impact on the diagnosis and treatment of brain cancer. VABC currently funds research at several esteemed institutions such as Brookhaven National Laboratory, Cleveland Clinic, Columbia, Cornell, Duke, Harvard, John Hopkins, Memorial Sloan-Kettering and Yale, to name a few.

VABC?s mission is to find a cure for brain cancer by advancing scientific research, building awareness within the medical community and supporting patients, their families and caregivers afflicted with this devastating disease.
